How we test
Every bottle in the ranking is used as a daily bottle for at least four weeks: tap water at a desk, gym water left warm in a bag, travel refills, and where relevant filtered water from moving natural sources. We record odour development without cleaning, taste against a plain steel control bottle, flow rate, leak behaviour in a bag, and charge life in normal use.
Scores weight water-safety capability 40%, everyday hygiene 25%, taste and drinkability 15%, build and portability 10%, and twelve-month cost of ownership 10%.
What we do not do
We do not invent star ratings, review counts or prices. Where a figure cannot be verified from the live merchant listing or a credible published source, we say so and point you to the listing instead. Merchant prices and stock change constantly; the listing always wins over anything printed here.
